SHABNAM ( DUTTA )  SAHI

Born in Calcutta, raised in Delhi and a Londoner since 2002, Shabnam graduated with a First in Political Science but opted for the Media at 21 after being chosen by All India Radio ( AIR FM ) to frontline a new wave of programmes for the youth. She followed it up with a successful career in Commercial Radio ( Times FM, now Radio Mirchi and Radio Midday ) as well as National TV ( as a newsreader for ZEE news ). 


Shabnam was an integral part of the pioneering wave of Internet Radio presenters in the 1990s, reaching out to the Asian Diaspora in Canada and USA on Radio Asianet with her effortless fluency in Hindi and English. She also made a name for herself on stage, hosting lifestyle shows and music gigs whilst also scripting and voicing adverts and weekly programmes for all the big players in India ( Star, Sony, Zee, TWI, Doordarshan, National Geographic )  She wrote the occasional column for dailies like The Hindustan Times and glossies like Cosmopolitan.


In 2002, Shabnam launched her radio career in the UK with Sunrise Radio under the 'radio name' of  'Sonia Dutta' - hosting a weekday show, the weekend Chart Show, alongside countless fashion events, Melas and Bollywood premiers.  Offbeat projects , e.g. vocals on an Indi-pop album by Sa Re Ga Ma India, LADY CHATTERJEE, soon followed. 


After a spell of freelancing following the birth of her children, Shabnam spent six gruelling months travelling across India for an acclaimed 10-part Travel Show on Belgian TV called INDIA FOR BEGINNERS ( Kanakna Productions for CANVAS ) Proudly showcasing India for European audiences on the show, she addressed topics as diverse as Food, Fashion, Science & Technology, Caste/  Sex / Gender Issues and Bollywood !  


The TV show also lead to her first book ( translated in Dutch ) - India for Beginners ; Snapshots From Home. 


Shabnam is currently giving final shape to her second book, researching a food show, getting back into hosting Live Shows and dipping her toe back into radio.


Married with two children, Shabnam lives and works in London.
